At their latest SXSW panel, Gearbox and Telltale revealed how Tales from the Borderlands is going to play – entirely in flashback. The game will feature two characters, Fiona, a grifter making her fortune in the wastes of Pandora, and Rhys, a Hyperion company man. Both characters are recapping their story to the other, but both characters are gigantic liars, or at least exaggerators. You’ll play both versions of the story and slowly realize that none of the facts match. It’s up to you to uncover the truth between the conflicting anecdotes.
Decision making is going to be very different in Tales from the Borderlands. There are going to be fewer situations where everything goes to shit. Instead, players will have to choose between scenarios that are equally lucrative for the characters. The despair and mystery of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us will be replaced with the iconic Borderlands humor we have come to know and love.
