New Live Streaming and Video Editing Features Coming to PS4

New Live Streaming and Video Editing Features Coming to PS4

While we’ve heard a lot lately regarding the many updates that Microsoft has brought to the Xbox One in recent weeks, it appears that Sony is also working diligently to bring new enhancements to its PS4 console as well.

In a recent post on the PlayStation.Blog, Sony Director of Product Planning and Software Innovation Scott McCarthy revealed what features they have coming down the pipe for the system. “Here at PlayStation, we listen closely to your comments and requests… I’m happy to report that, as a direct result of your feedback…This upcoming update will add a rich video editor with a simple tool to personalize your video clips, and you’ll also be able to export to and save the videos and screenshots you create by pressing the SHARE button to a USB drive.” He says.

In additional to the editing functionality, which puts gamers in a Spielberg-esque roll in cutting together some of their most epic in-game moments, McCarthy reveals they’ll also be allowing a little more leeway for users when creating their clips. “In addition, this update will add an HDCP off option for capturing gameplay via HDMI, a feature we’ve previously said would come after launch. We recognize that some gamers want to record and share longer clips of their gameplay sessions, and we’re excited to deliver this option with PS4.” Touts McCarthy.

The blog post also states that they’ll be working with both Twitch and Ustream in order to provide archiving functionality, which they call a “highly requested feature” among PS4 owners.
