Notch Receives Harsh Words From Gears of War Creator

Cliff Bleszinski has never been shy about sharing his opinions. After the news broke that Notch would be canceling a proposed VR edition of Minecraft , the Gears of War creator took him to task.

In a recent blog post, Bleszinski tacked on a “P.S.” at the end to call out Notch’s decision to take his ball and go home. It reads: “Notch, your cancelling Minecraft makes you look like a pouty kid who is taking his ball and going home. It’s a bratty and petty move and it saddens me greatly.”

The controversy that sparked the firestorm this week (which is what ultimately lead to Minecraft’s VR cancellation) resulted from Facebook’s buy-out of the Oculus Rift for an estimated $2 billion dollars. While many have already written the project off as dead in the water, Cliffy B feels that VR still has potential. “When that dust settles my heart says that I really, genuinely care about VR and I want to experience and enjoy it myself, and I have faith that it will still happen, and it will be better than ever…Maybe Zuck sees what everyone else has seen-the future-and wants to make sure it’s more than just great games and saw that it would add value to his business.” He says.

It’s amazing how a few short days can change things isn’t it? According to Oculus CEO, the deal literarily took place in 72 hours but has now left many with an incredible uncertainty regarding the future of the project. In addition, with PS4’s Morpheus also recently announced, could this be the opening Sony needs to open possibly open up their venture to a cross-platform strategy?
