Nintendo Producer Hints At New Mario Game On Wii U

Nintendo Producer Hints At New Mario Game On Wii U

Say what you want about the future of the Wii U and Nintendo in general, but there is still one thing they know how to do…and that’s make Mario games!

Yoshiaki Koizumi recently confirmed that development of a new title in the franchise is in-fact underway, but wouldn’t confirm exactly what system the game was for (the home console or handheld 3DS). When pressed on the matter, he playful replied “That’s still a secret! I can tell you, though, that we’ve already started approaching our next challenge.”

However, even though the Wii U is on its last legs according to some industry insiders, Koizumi feels there’s still more juice to squeeze from this lemon (no pun intended). “There’s still a lot more room for discovery and invention, and we’ll continue to propose new and exciting game mechanics going into the future.” he says.

Co-Director Kenta Motokur was also on-hand to give his insight into what prompted the wildly popular furry-esque cat suit power-up from the hugely popular Super Mario 3D World . “One of the things we investigated was having characters scamper around on all fours.” Motokur  says, “…the test characters were either a normal-looking Mario or a version with a slight difference in color…we felt that a cat ticked all the boxes…for the final design, we strove to make it as cat-like as possible, while keeping it clearly distinct from 3D Land’s Tanooki Mario.”

We will keep you posted on all the news and info regarding the latest Super Mario game coming to either the Wii U or 3DS as it breaks.
