The Virtuix Omni Virtual Reality Treadmill Will Ship in July

The Virtuix Omni Virtual Reality Treadmill Will Ship in July

The Oculus Rift is all well and good, what with its full stereoscopic field of vision and it’s soon to release integration with Facebook (badumtish), but it’s still limited. No matter how realistic the world you are seeing is, you are still controlling your character through the use of a keyboard and mouse. Luckily, there is a product that fixes all that: the Virtuix Omni treadmill.

The Virtuix Omni treadmill makes use of a special platform that holds you in place, a belt, and shoes that act as sensors. Strapping in to the Virtuix Omni will allow you to walk naturally without actually moving from a single spot.  This coupled with motion controllers allow you to play virtual reality games by actually moving your body in a natural way.

It was recently announced that the Virtuix Omni will soon begin shipping to customers that have pre-ordered the package. A $499 pre-order will get you the platform, shoes, belt, and tracking hardware and software. However, dishing out $1,019 will get you two treadmills. Note, that you will need an Oculus Rift to be able to use the treadmill, or at the very least some other virtual reality headset device, and it’s not particularly easy to get your hands on one of those.
