InFAMOUS: Second Son Update Introduces Photo Mode

InFAMOUS: Second Son Update Introduces Photo Mode

Co-founder of InFAMOUS: Second Son’s Sucker Punch Brian Fleming revealed on Wednesday, April 16 that the title’s next update–that will be released today, April 17–will introduce a new Photo Mode feature, as well as a few other things.

With this update, you’ll now be able to disable the in-game HUD if you so desire, and you’ll also be able to adjust the time of day as you like once you’ve completed the game.

You’ll also be given the option to cap the game’s framerate to 30 frames per second if that’s what you would prefer. Fleming assures that this is not a framerate lock; “ this is a frame rate cap–not a lock. It won’t eliminate the rare instance of a dropped frame during gameplay, ” he said. The full list of additional goodies that’ll be introduced with this update have been detailed below.

  • A handful of localisation text changes, and a couple of fixes for rare crashes in the game (thanks to all of you who uploaded reports on those, they were extremely helpful!);

  • If your controller runs out of batteries in the middle of gameplay, your game will pause. Our art director pulled a hamstring scrambling to get his second controller mid-boss-battle, so we needed to fix this;

  • If you are choosing expert difficulty, we let you know within the options dialogue if you’re qualified for the “Unstoppable” trophy the moment you opt in;

  • Photo Mode.

Because Sucker Punch was amazed at the quality of screenshots players have been sharing of InFAMOUS: Second Son , the developer has introduce the Photo Mode feature to help them a bit. Following the patch update, you’ll be able to enable Photo Mode via the Options menu. Once you’ve done that, press L3 to activate the feature, which will pause the game, and you’ll be able to use a wide selection of tools to make your to-be screenshot all the more amazing.

The caveat of Photo Mode is that you can only use it in areas where you can freely move the in-game camera around. You’ll still be able to take screenshots during scripted sequences and / or cutscenes, but you won’t be able to use Photo Mode to take said screenshots.

What’s more, each time you restart the game the settings you applied for the new options, including framerate, will be reset. Sucker Punch chose not to disturb the game’s save file format with this patch so that the studio could get this update to you as quickly as possible.

PlayStation 4 console sales have also risen in the UK by 106 percent following the launch of InFAMOUS: Second Son , topping the Xbox One’s console sales in the UK of 96 percent following Titanfall . The game’s day-one patch also introduced the first of five hours of free extra episodic content, coined as InFAMOUS Paper Trail . Read our Matt Walker’s review of InFAMOUS: Second Son here .
