Naughty Dog Looking Into Upgrade Discount for The Last of Us

Naughty Dog Looking Into Upgrade Discount for The Last of Us

When Sony revealed the price for the brand new PS4 remaster of The Last of Us , a lot of gamers flinched. The title would be released at full price, even though it is over a year old and contains no new content. It certainly doesn’t make the remaster any more appealing to people who already picked up the game for the PS3, and that could cost Sony and Naughty Dog a lot of sales.

Fortunately, Naughty Dog seems to be looking into an “upgrade” model, much like the ones that were used for Battlefield and Call of Duty , that would provide a discount to anyone who owns a PS3 copy of the game. This news comes by way of Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli in a post on the official European PlayStation Blog. Unfortunately, this is just an idea and nothing more at this point. Monacelli did not comment on how much the discount would be, how you would redeem it, and more.

At this point, the PS4’s lineup features mostly last-gen upgrades and indie titles. New AAA hits like inFAMOUS: Second Son are the rarity. So pricing a last-gen upgrade prohibitively enough that early adopters won’t buy it would be a horrible move for Sony. In our opinion, this makes this whole upgrade pricing scheme very likely to happen.
