Ouya Launches A New Game Streaming Service

Ouya Launches A New Game Streaming Service

Earlier today, Ouya launched a beta version of a brand new game streaming service with the help of Playcast Media. This cloud based streaming service is similar to both OnLive and Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Now subscription service.

Playcast Media CEO Guy de Beer stated in a press release that launching today’s beta would allow them to test out the features and make sure that everything is working properly before a formal patch update is issued. Some of the publishers that have already signed up for the service include EA, Ubisoft, Konami, Warner Bros., 2K, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Capcom, Codemasters, Disney, Sega, Atari and THQ.

This move by Ouya is very interesting overall. Media streaming is an ever-growing feature that everyone seems to be taking advantage of nowadays. While the Ouya may not be seen as a viable threat to some of the companies mentioned above, the demand for the feature will definitely force everyone to strive to provide the best service possible to any and every consumers down the road. Ouya hasn’t confirmed a set price for this service yet either, something that I’m certain will change very soon.

What do you all think of Ouya’s decision to add this feature? Please feel free to let me know in the comments section below.
