Showtime may Partner with Xbox for Halo TV Series

Showtime may Partner with Xbox for Halo TV Series

As reported by Variety (an entertainment magazine), Xbox Entertainment Studios is in negotiations with Showtime, a premium cable and satellite TV network, to help develop the live-action Halo TV series that was announced last year.

According to the report, it’s understood that both Xbox Studios and Showtime are nearing a deal, the details of the deal are still being ironed out. What’s been revealed so far is that the Halo TV series will air on Showtime as well as Xbox One, but Variety’s sources say the series will launch on Showtime first, followed by the Xbox One (which will allegedly included enhanced interactivity).

Xbox Studios aims to develop the Halo TV series as high-end productions in an effort to improve the quality of the Xbox One being an entertainment service for its 48 million subscribers, according to Variety.

The Halo TV series itself, which is part of Microsoft’s TV line-up for Xbox One, is currently under production, and 343 Industries is overseeing its development with Steven Spielberg as the series’ executive producer. The series is slated to debut in the second quarter of this year.

Incidentally, Alien director Ridley Scott has been confirmed to be producing an upcoming Halo -based “digital feature”–a fact that was initially a rumor, which was dispelled by Microsoft. Furthermore, according to a rumor that cropped up at the end of January, Neill Blomkamp, who directed Elysium , is reported to be the one who will kickstart the upcoming Halo TV series by directing  the pilot episode.

Phil Spencer , the who was recently promoted to Head of Xbox , has also shared his speculation on the rumored Halo 2 Anniversary (a supposed HD re-release in the vein of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary )–specifically its multiplayer. Halo 2 Anniversary initially cropped up on NeoGAF, and it is rumored to release in November . Spencer also tweeted that you can expect Halo news at this years E3, and that 343 Industries has a “ great plan ” in place for the franchise.

A Microsoft executive has also clarified that, even with the recently outlined TV line-up for Xbox One, the company will not deviate from Spencer’s “ gamers first ” promise. Microsoft has also confirmed that it has no plans to release further Halo titles on Steam at this time. Curiously, the next Halo that’s slated to launch on Xbox One has appeared as available for pre-order on Walmart’s online store.
