CCP’s DUST 514 will be Ported to PC as “Project Legion”

CCP’s DUST 514 will be Ported to PC as “Project Legion”

Revealed at this year’s EVE Fanfest, Eurogamer has reported that a counterpart of CCP Games’ free-to-play PlayStation 3 shooter DUST 514 will be making its way to PC under the title “ Project Legion ”.

According to CCP’s CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, Project Legion is ” a new approach to being a mercenary on the ground. It’s almost that experience made anew, ” he told Eurogamer. ” It’s taking all we learned from DUST and almost making a new game from scratch, even though it’s the same team doing a first-person shooter, so they’re very experienced now, ” he continued . And we’ve made good headway on it.

Despite Project Legions’ announcement for the PC, Pétursson isn’t quite sure if the title will make its way to other platforms, as it is still a young project that’s in the early stages of development.

During Fanfest, CCP’s executive producer Jean-Charles Gaudechon presented a world exclusive live demo of Project Legion , and revealed that the game came about from the DUST 514 team’s desire to move forward towards a more sandbox-like shooter within EVE Online’s fictional universe of New Eden, and have the title take a life of its own.

Project Legion’s demo showcased the player’s quarters, which, according to Eurogamer, had a view of a nearby planet and busy spaceships making their way to and from. The demonstrated in-game menus are reported to be linked to various social and economic mechanics within the game, and it is presumed that these will also work in sync with EVE Online . Gaudechon also explained that the social aspect of the game, like in EVE , will be paramount.

Gaudechon later confirmed to Eurogamer that Project Legion will be designed as a free-to-play title, just like DUST 514 . He also reassured that DUST 514 will not suffer as a result of Legion’s development. No release date for Project Legion has been announced as of yet.

As another effort to expand upon EVE Online’s universe, CCP Games has released EVE: Source , a large comprehensive encyclopedia on everything to do with the sci-fi MMO and its universe of New Eden. Additionally, the final issue EVE: True Stories was released on Wednesday, April 2, the first of which was introduced back in mid-February .

Global payment services provider Xsolla has also announced that it is working with CCP Games to help expand EVE Online’s payment options to players in emerging markets, such as Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Latin America and South-East Asia.
