Souls Title Rumored for PS4

According to some images that cropped up on NeoGAF , it has been rumored that another Souls title may be releasing on Sony’s PlayStation 4, be it either From Software’s Demon’s Souls or a yet-to-be-announced title. However, according to one image, the project from which these images are believed to be from may be titled “ Project Beast ”.

According to an interview back in January, the PC version of Dark Souls II won’t be used as a port to Xbox One or PlayStation 4 for the time being, as From Software is currently undecided on bringing Dark Souls II to current-gen consoles. Being as that was a few months ago, the studio’s mentality on the matter may have changed since then.

Met with a mostly enthusiastic response and some skepticism, an interesting suggestion as to what this title could be is a spaghetti western-like horror game in the vein of the Souls titles, a concept born from the inclusion of what is perceived to be a double-barrel shotgun in a couple of the images.

An investigation in early April by Gematsu looked into the possibility of Sony Computer Entertainment and From Software working together to develop another Souls title, believed to be a potential successor/sequel to Demon’s Souls . When Sony was asked about the matter, the typical we have nothing to announce at this time ” response was made, leading the investigation to conclude that such a title is almost entirely implausible. As it has been nearly a month since that investigation was published, it may be possible that the variables of said investigation have changed between then and now.

From Software was recently acquired by Japanese media publisher Kadokawa, which will be finalized on Wednesday, May 21, and the publisher will acquire 80 percent of the developer’s stocks. Dark Souls modder Peter “Durante” Thoman was asked to analyze the PC port of Dark Souls II , to see if From Software did a better job with it than what it did with the PC version of Dark Souls . He concluded that the title, “ not only fulfills all the standard expectations in terms of resolution and framerate support, but also adds additional options beyond that.
