Halo Director Condemns “Industry Insiders”

Frank O’connor, 343 Industries’ franchise development director for the the Halo franchise, took to NeoGAF last week on Friday, May 16 to offer his two-cents on the topic of videogame leaks and people breaking embargoes before their dates, including such “industry insiders” like CBOAT (crazy buttocks on a train) and others.

O’Connor offered a perspective from the other side of the coin, explaining that leaking entrusted information on titles that are currently in development can seriously affect a developer’s livelihood, so much so that they could be potentially fired or some other poor sod could receive the brunt of the fallout.

Furthermore, he explained that–on the flip side of things–people who do work on something for a game, people with commitments, families and such the like, do work as hard as they can on said something, and how they can wake up one morning to find that said something they’ve been working on has been blown up all over the place.

Breaking embargos is not prophesy, ” O’Connor began in response to a thread on NeoGAF. “ Nor does it require any particular skill or insight. Ultimately he [CBOAT] is taking or being given information and leaking it, illegally and often erroneously.

And he isn’t doing it for some noble or worthy reason. He’s doing it for attention, ” he continued. ” People, including nice people with kids and families and stuff, work super hard on this stuff and wake up in the morning to find some of their effort blown up.

It’s not fun, and for what? ” He questioned. “ So you can have a mildly interesting surprise 8 hours early and lacking context? Or get hyped or disappointed disproportionately?

Or get someone fired or someone innocent yelled at? Ok. But it isn’t prophecy, nor ultimately even important. It’s annoying, ” he added.

It has been reported that an entire collection of all the previous games from the main series (being Halo: Combat Evolved through to Halo 4 ) will be receiving an HD remastering in the form of what has been dubbed as the Halo: The Master Chief Collection , which has also strengthened the Halo 2 Anniversary rumor .

The purpose of the collection is said to refresh the memories of Halo fans young and old ahead of release for the recently announced Halo 5: Guardians .

For those of you worrying about no longer being able to play Halo: Combat Evolved’s multiplayer for PC following GameSpy’s shutdown, a new patch that was recently released will allow you to still play online.
