Wii U Getting a Gamecube Controller Adapter

Wii U Getting a Gamecube Controller Adapter

Nintendo finally has an answer to the question, “what will we use to play the new Smash Bros. ” The answer is, “the Gamecube controller, duh!” The big N has recently revealed a brand new gamecube controller adapter for the Wii U. It connects to the front of the console with what appears to be two USB connections. The adapter has four Gamecube controller ports and is compatible with all Gamecube controllers.

However, what’s more exciting is the fact that the Gamecube controller may be coming back! In the reveal, Nintendo showed what appeared to be a brand new Gamecube controller with a Smash Brothers logo on it.

The news comes from a Nintendo Tweet as well as a trailer for the new Smash Bros. invitational that will be held at E3 this year. We can expect that the adapter will be usable in that tournament. Tourney rules have also been revealed, but they involve items and stuff, so pro gamers probably won’t be interested. Check out the full trailer for details.
