Watch_Dogs Sells 4 Million, Becomes Best New IP

There is no denying that the much anticipated Watch_Dogs has been on many people’s “must play” list for some time. It would appear that its initial delay had little effect on sales, as it’s enjoyed quite a good week to say the least.

So far, the game has surpassed the 4 million mark and only continues to rise. Receiving high praise (and scores) among video game fans and journalists alike, Watch_Dogs is a hit on both the next and previous generations of consoles. Touting their success, Ubisoft states their latest release has become the “…best-selling new IP at launch across the video game industry.” Marketing Exec Tony Key said the game’s huge numbers have allowed it to “…position itself as the must-have game of the moment. We’re really proud of this achievement, and are confident that the Watch_Dogs brand has a promising future.”

While those at Ubisoft are certainly riding high at the moment (as they should be), the initial launch wasn’t without its hitches. A small media speed bump came in the form of Conservative/Libertarian talk show host Glenn Beck. His criticism of the game ranged from the promotion of anti-heroes (instead of a staple of Americana like Superman) to the notion that the title promotes hacking of people’s personal information. “What’s wrong with us?” is just one of the many barbs he would throw Watch_Dogs’ way, also questioning what influence video games have on our brains.

Never the less, Watch_Dogs is on its way to break records set by another popular Ubisoft franchise; Assassin’s Creed . We’ll keep you posted regarding this new IPs epic success.
