After six years of not seeing a new Rainbow Six title, we got our first look at the latest entry in the franchise (entitled Siege) during Ubisoft’s media briefing.
The footage shown (recorded from what they state is a pre-alpha multiplayer match) not only looks great, but redefines the word “tactical.” Before entering a home where the opposing team has control of a hostage, a drone is deployed to verify her location. After choosing the roof as the most advantageous means of entry, the ensuing fire fight is intense to say the least.
Here is where you can tell that Rainbow Six: Siege puts emphasis on strategic thinking (like using explosives to breach rooms from above via the 2nd floor ceiling) or continuous communication with your team to ensure you secure your objective. Planning and thinking on your feet has always been a staple of the Rainbow Six series, one this demo proves is still just as paramount.
We’ll report further details on this long anticipated release once we know more.
