Almost 1/3 of PS4 Owners Never Owned a PlayStation Before

Almost 1/3 of PS4 Owners Never Owned a PlayStation Before

Sony is riding high, coming off a big E3 win this year. Once the dust settles, don’t be surprised as many journalists around the ole’ interwebs look to them when awarding their “Best in Show” awards (as some already have). However, there is one interesting stat to come out regarding the current generation of PlayStation and its huge fan base.

As you may know, the PlayStation is clobbering the Xbox One in the sales department, out matching it by almost a 2:1 ratio across the globe. Now, John Koller (who is Sony marketing VP in the US) reveals that many of this consumer base comes from converts. A new report highlights that over 30% of current PS4 users were Xbox or Wii owners last generation (and some didn’t buy one at all). However, Koller contributes this to the die-hards, who always support new gaming tech from day one of its launch. “The person that we’ve picked up since launch,” he says “primarily is someone we call the connoisseur, someone that loves, unequivocally, loves games…They’re the people who stood in line at midnight for the console’s launch. They really are a fantastic consumer for us. They’re a great part of the PlayStation nation.”

As we continue to see the success of the PlayStation console grow, Sony has several things lined up which they hope will only widen their foundation. PlayStation TV, their streaming service PlayStation Now and the Morpheus headset are just some of things on the horizon.

We’ll bring you more on Sony and all their innovative new products coming out of this year’s E3!
