New Snowdrop Engine Powering Tom Clancy’s The Division

New Snowdrop Engine Powering Tom Clancy’s The Division

While there was new shortage of FPS footage on-hand at this week’s E3, the visual fidelity of Tom Clancy’s The Division certainly impressed!

If you were to look under the hood (so to speak) you’d find the new Snowdrop Engine. According to the Xbox Wire, The Swedish Ubisoft team was tasked with “…building an entirely new engine – from scratch – to drive its upcoming game, “ Tom Clancy’s The Division .” Its new engine is called the Snowdrop Engine, and it’s one of the most powerful around. Here are a few ways that it will make “The Division” a decidedly future-forward experience.”

Naturally, in a genre as crowded as this one is, it’s necessary to go beyond just a beautiful level of next-gen polish. So how will The Division set itself apart from its familiar counterparts? One way is the second screen experience (which will allow a friend to cooperatively provide support on the battlefield). “ The Division ” has been designed to properly support a second screen experience” they tout.” Those playing through the app will be able to seamlessly join a game anywhere they want controlling a drone, they’ll be able to see the scene from a bird’s eye view – and provide advanced tactical support for teammates. It’s a different yet awesome way to play.”

The Snowdrop engine looks to also provide an unprecedented level of in-game physics, from sunlight peering through bullet holes to “…turning a police car into scrap metal one headlight at a time.”

More on Tom Clancy’s The Division as it breaks.
