Watch_Dogs PC Mod Mirrors Ubisoft’s E3 2012 Demo

Watch_Dogs PC Mod Mirrors Ubisoft’s E3 2012 Demo

As reported by VG24/7 on Monday, June 16, a PC modder has upgraded the visual fidelity of the PC version of Ubisoft’s recently released Watch_Dogs to a point that mirrors the game’s initial E3 unveiling back in 2012.

The modder, TheWorse, listed the certain enhancements that were included in their project on a Guru3D forum post, which has been detailed below (some of which are still in testing at the time of writing).

  • Changes to the default fog values

  • Enabled bokeh DOF for the main cameras

  • Stuttering Improvements

  • E3 2012 Bloom

  • Performance Improvements

  • Enabled Headlight Shadows

  • LoD Changes

  • Reflection changes

  • Added 3 new cameras to the game (closer, normal, further)

  • Rain changes (High quality rain drops, properly reacting to light, etc)

  • LensFlares (WIP)

  • Lighting changes (TESTING AND WIP)

  • Civilians density changes

TheWorse notes that not all of the above features are yet available in the mod. On the plus side though, they do note that there will be many more additions to be included in the list soon.

I’m a very obsessed person, with many things mainly graphics ,” TheWorse wrote on their forum post as an introduction . Also i’m a fan of using sweetfx on every game I can use it. I like to make my own presets always. After [the release of Watch_Dogs ] and [its] stupid stuttering problems I started searching for fixes etc.

The Worse then proceeded to recount their efforts in finding out ways to improve Watch_Dogs graphical fidelity and how the mod itself came to be.

Then I saw many threads talking about the engine when I realized it was based on dunia 2 so I tried to unpack the files which obviously not worked.. so after searching so much for the unpacker I found it, started playing with it and after a long time of testing I ended up getting the E3 Bloom from 2012 working, ” The Worse continued.

After studying how bin hex worked and downloading many tools to convert files etc, I was able to integrate and enable many effects. I told myself to keep trying and trying and that is what I have done, ” they added.

The mod itself can be found on TheWorse’s forum post via Guru3D (along with some additional screenshots, too). TheWorse cautions that the mod itself is still not finished.

To get an idea of how much Watch_Dogs’ fidelity changed since 2012, a YouTube user compiled and compared the E3 footage with the PC release version on Ultra graphic settings. Their video has been embedded below.
