Titanfall Sequel to Feature Single-Player?

Titanfall Sequel to Feature Single-Player?

Traditionally, games with a multiplayer presence have always provided the standard single-player mode for those uninterested in joining the collective online. However, with Titanfall bucking tradition, will we see a return to standard offline content in future sequels?

Maybe yes and maybe no. That’s the take away from comments recently made by Respawn COO Dusty Welch. On the subject of introducing a standalone campaign (that does not require a link to an online element), Welch said “Would I rule it out for the future? Certainly not…I think that there’s a lot of reward in continuing to push the paradigm that Titanfall introduced, which is this always-connected, real live visceral multiplayer universe. We learned a lot, and I think it’s up to us to think about how we apply the learning to make the next game even more expansive and more engaging than the first.”

However, even though Titanfall may not cater to the traditional standards of some whom are not accustomed to its “always on mentality;” a game such as this really lends itself to a more intensive and non-traditional demographic anyway.

Of course I’m referring to the eSports crowd. Although no plans are in place just yet, Welch said that a Titanfall geared towards the competitive FPS arena is not out of the question. “I think it would be interesting to take some more steps in the eSports direction. I don’t know if we will, though. There’s obviously a lot of work to do in the game and in the code and in the spectator mode and some others things. I think it’s certainly something that the audience is begging for, and it gives us a lot of encouragement thinking beyond this current Titanfall and into the future.”  Welch states.

Titanfall is currently available for PC and both the Xbox One and 360.
