Epic Games shows off Unreal Engine 4 on Mobile

Epic Games shows off Unreal Engine 4 on Mobile

As reported by GameSpot on Thursday, June 26, d uring Google’s 2014 I/O conference, Gears of War developer Epic Games showed off its Unreal Engine 4 on Nvidia’s Tegra K1 mobile processo r.

This latest tech demonstration of the graphical engine was developed in collaboration with Nvidia, and it just goes to show how much of the gap between mobile and PC graphical fidelity is closing.

The demo itself was built on a high-end PC, and it was then quickly transferred to the Tegra K1. According to GameSpot, Nvidia claims that the K1 processor is superior to both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Furthermore, with Google’s new Android Extension Pack (which adds tessellation, geometry shaders and more), Epic also claims the mobile CPU can bring high-fidelity graphics to mobile.

Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 ‘Rivalry’ project demonstrated at Google I/O shows what’s possible when PC-class gaming technologies and performance are brought to mobile devices, ” Epic explains in the video’s description of the tech demo. ” In less than three weeks we ported content built for high-end PC and the DirectX 11 graphics API to Android and Google’s AEP (Android Extension Pack) extensions for ES 3.1. Developers can deliver incredible graphical complexity on a mobile chipset thanks to K1 and AEP!
