Nintendo Still Feels They Can Beat Competitors

Nintendo Still Feels They Can Beat Competitors

While the console war has clearly broken down to just the “big two” of Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo suggests that you still can’t count them out of this fight!

Reggie Fils-Aime (exec at Nintendo of America) stated in a recent interview that Nintendo’s ace in the hole is providing an experience like no other currently available on the market. “It’s all about content. For us, if you look back at what we were able to do during the Wii generation. What we’re able to do with DS. What we’re doing now with 3DS. It’s about content. It’s about content that widens the footprint for the platform. It’s about content that drives the install base. And as we do that, guess what? People buy hardware.” He says.

Fils-Aime also points to their competitor’s larger-than-life conferences at E3 each year as a waste of resources, when they should be focused on the software side of things. He states, “That’s what we did with the Wii. That’s what we did with the DS on a global basis. That’s what we’re looking to do with both 3DS and Wii U, but it starts with content. And that’s why, for us, at events like E3, our developers spend so much time talking about the content and how we’re driving innovation there.”

Nintendo certainly has a long way to go however, as the Wii U has sold just about as many systems as the PS4 (yet had a substantial head start into the market).
