Riot Games introduces “Intro Bots” for new LoL Players

Riot Games introduces “Intro Bots” for new LoL Players

We’ve established that League of Legends developer Riot Games is working to spruce up the recognised map of Summoner’s Rift into something that’s more visually grounded in the game’s lore, so that players can understand and read the map and the actions made with it more clearly.

Seemingly connected to the map’s overhaul, Riot Games has also revealed that it will be introducing new AI bots that are appropriately scaled for newcomers to the game. What’s more, in an effort to make the game easier to understand for said newcomers, Riot will also be revamping how the game’s tutorial in presented.

As detailed on the official League of Legends website, Riot Games is hoping to adjust the game’s learning curve so that it becomes easier for new players to quickly grasp the game and how it’s played, and to do this the developer will be focusing on five core principles regarding the matter, which have been detailed below.

  • Make learning fun

  • Provide achievable and meaningful goals

  • Offer well-paced information

  • Reinforce through play

  • Deliver appropriate challenge

Part of these core principles is the introduction of more newcomer-appropriate AI bots, coined as “Intro Bots”. Intro Bots is a new tier of AI of the Co-Op vs. AI game mode, and features more that just being a new AI–they’re specifically designed so as to let new players learn how to play the game “ in a more guided and forgiving setting.

Aside from implementing new bot AI, Riot Games’ incentive is to make the game more fun for new players to get into and keep playing, as well as ensuring that the first few moments of playing League of Legends goes without a hitch.

In that regard, the developer took a moment to figure out what was currently not fun for newcomers to the game, and have so created Intro Bots to make learning how to play League of Legends more fun for new players. As a result, Riot Games has taken some liberties in order to reduce potential frustration for new players.

By tuning damage dealt and bot behavior, new players are now given more time to react to new situations, and with reduced respawn timers newcomers can make less punishing mistakes while still being allowed to fail as part of a learning experience. Riot hopes that the end result of the newcomer-focused incentive will enable new players to learn the game through more experimentation and more fun.

We’ll bring you more news on League of Legends’ development should further information reach our ears. You can read Riot Games’ full blog post on the matter via the source link below.
