Advanced Warfare dev promises “Huge Improvement” to Weapon Audio

Advanced Warfare dev promises “Huge Improvement” to Weapon Audio

As detailed in a dev diary published on Tuesday, July 8,  Sledgehammer Games’ audio director of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , Don Veca, has revealed that the weapon audio in the next installment to the Call of Duty franchise will be noticeably different in terms of quality compared to the previous titles.

Right off the bat, one of the things I think gamers are going to notice is the huge improvement to the weapons, ” Veca said at the beginning of the video. “ That sound goes through your body. You don’t just go and record it, you try to recreate that feeling–make it really feel like you’re really there.

In wanting to create an exceptionally top-notch audio system for the game, Veca and his team didn’t just record modernday weapons and then import the sound files into Advanced Warfare .

Instead, the development team would always start off with something “ grounded ”, and with that they then built up from their by introducing new sounds the team created themselves to make a more unique and believable sound system.

Veca also touted that Sledgehammer has introduced “ intelligence ” into the game’s audio system, making it so you will virtually never hear the same impact or explosion twice.

It’s a futuristic setting, but we want it to be believable, ” Veca said. ” We would always start with something grounded and add new sounds that we created ourselves, mix it in, layer things; so that you come up with something truly unique.

When you’re done, you see all these different audio systems all working together, and it sounds like a movie. But it’s not a movie. It’s happening right there, ” he added.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is slated to release on Tuesday, November 4 for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We’ll bring you more news on Advanced Warfare’s development should further information reach our ears.
