EVO News: Raiden Revealed for Mortal Kombat X

The tagline for Mortal Kombat X is “Who’s Next” and Ed Boon and the guys at Netherrealm were happy to answer that question at this year’s EVO with a brand new character reveal. You have seen this character before but never like this. It’s Raiden, immortal god of thunder, being remixed for a brand new Mortal Kombat .

Raiden, like every other MKX character, has three styles. His first style focuses on electricity combos. It appears to give him new combos strings that put the opponent into extended hit-stuns, giving him an impressive boost to damage.

His second style focuses on lightning traps which allow him to control space. Instead of just firing lightning bolts, he can place lightning balls around the screen, damaging anyone who comes in contact with them. Placing two lightning balls makes a bolt streak across them, creating a huge dead zone that the opponent just cannot enter.

His final stage focuses on his teleports. Not only do his teleports allow him to extend his combos, teleporting behind the opponent after they have been knocked away, they are also useful defensive move allowing him to get out of a corner. He can even delay his teleports to set up mix-up opportunities.
