Microsoft to announce layoffs Soon, Xbox team Affected

As reported by Bloomberg on Tuesday, July 15, Microsoft is reportedly planning its biggest batch of job cuts in five years, as the company is looking to slim down and integrate Nokia Oyj’s handset unit.

Microsoft’s chief executive officer Satya Nadella explained in a recent interview that he was preparing for sweeping changes at the company. According to Bloomberg, sources close to the matter (who wished to remain anonymous) claim that the changes will probably be in engineering, marketing and areas affiliated with Nokia.

Details of the changes themselves are said to be possibly unveiled as soon as this week, and they are also said to be possibly the biggest reconstruction Microsoft has had in its history, topping the previous record of 5,800 jobs cut from the company back in 2009, two of Bloomberg’s sources claim.

According to Bloomberg, some of the job cuts will affect the global Xbox team, as it is a part of Microsoft’s marketing departments.

We’ve established that, as detailed in a letter to all Microsoft employees, Nadella recently stated that the company “ will continue to vigorously innovate ” Xbox, despite the company’s redirected focus on mobile and Cloud technology.

We’ll bring you more information on Microsoft’s job cuts should further information reach our ears.
