Wii U Gets 5.1.0 System Update

Wii U Gets 5.1.0 System Update

A brand new firmware update has hit Wii Us everywhere and it comes with two big changes. The first change allows you to now move any software or data across Wii U’s. This will allow players to move their Nintendo Network ID from an old Wii U to a new one. It also allows people to bring their save files to other people’s houses. Unfortunately, the process is kind of clunky. First of all it erases any data that is already on the Wii U you are transferring to. So you will have to back up your data every time you do this. Also, any USB devices that are attached to the Wii U that data is being transferred to will cease functioning until they are formatted, once again making you lose all your data. This is all a form of copyright protection, which is understandable, but it also makes the feature very limited in power and likely won’t be used much.

Aside from this change, the E-Shop can now be controlled witth several different controllers including the Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, and Classic Controller. Unfortunately, the Gamecube controller can still not be used.

Finally, Nintendo has also said that they have included several stability updates that help include performance. Of course, these weren’t named in particular, so likely it’s just more measures to keep people from soft modding the console.
