Nvidia Shield Tablet Creators Take Inspiration from the Model T

Nvidia’s portable gaming machine called the Shield Tablet is coming soon to store shelves on July 29, 2014, and in light of that the news the company has revealed a few details regarding its pricing and what inspired them to create the thing: the Model T.

Nvidia makes an apt comparison to comparing the first tablet with the first automobile. According to Nvidia’s Matt Webling, the Model T was among the first of its kind, and eventually producers started to create specialized vehicles such as trucks. The Shield Tablet would be a specialized tablet to suit the needs of a specific end-user: gamers.

“We fundamentally believe that tablets are going through that exact same rapid maturity,” Webling told Polygon. “It’s a device that’s absolutely taken off, and now there are segments that are cropping up. We think this gives Nvidia a great opportunity to bring a different product to market and focused on gamers, a group of end users we know very well.”

The NVIDIA Shield Tablet will debut with two different models: 16GB and 32GB. The 16GB model will cost $299  with WIFI; the 32GB will cost $399 with LTE. The tablet will be able to stream PC games at 1080p, and the company showcased titles such as Titanfall and Trine 2 .
