As reported by Load The Game on Wednesday, July 23, bigwig publisher Electronic Arts has stated during its latest earnings call that it hopes to launch the next addition to the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Battlefront , around the same time as the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII movie.
This means that EA would prefer for Star Wars: Battlefront to release sometime in December next year, to coincide with the movie’s launch.
“ As it relates to Star Wars , we’ve shown parts from the game today, so you know that what we’re building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made. And that’s just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars , ” EA’s executive vice president Patrick Soderlund said during the call.
“ Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it. ”
With this statement, it is implied that Star Wars: Battlefront will have a loose connection with the Star Wars: Episode VII movie, but it won’t be entirely related to it.
We’ve established that the iconic X-Wing will be making an appearance in Star Wars: Episode VII , and we’ve also established that two new cast members were added to Star Wars: Episode VII roster back in early-June, a list which itself was announced back in early-May (and includes most of the original actors from the original trilogy ).
Furthermore, Star Wars: Battlefront’s developer DICE went on trips to view Star Wars memorabilia and film locations in an effort to remain as true and as faithful as possible to the Star Wars franchise.
Principal photography began for Star Wars: Episode VII on Tuesday, March 18. The film is slated to release in theatres worldwide on December 18, 2015 .
