Marvel President Talks Future Films

I think it’s safe to say that Marvel will forever be remembered as the studio that reinvented (some would say perhaps built) the superhero film as a genre. So where does the already jam-packed schedule of upcoming movies go from here?

At Comic-Con over the weekend, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked a little about what it’s like to juggle the current roster of characters (with the likes of Guardians, Avengers and more) while also planning for the future. In regards to keeping all the inter-mixed storylines from become too entangled, he says “We want to be wary of continuity collapsing in on itself. I like the idea of watching all the “Captain America” films as just one series. Or just the “Iron Man” or “Avengers” films. But you could also watch them in each phase.”

Many fans aren’t big on the latest trend which replaces real-life actors with CG renditions (which they later just voice over). When asked about the practice from Marvel, Feige touts how this method becomes a necessity when filming certain scenes. “Utilizing technology is a lot of what these are about. Thanos is not just vocal it’s facial as with Mark Ruffalo in Hulk. That’s with Thanos, but not just Rocket and Groot. Andy Serkis is the king of that…That is why we were comfortable pulling the trigger on Ultron . There are a lot of robots in movies, how do we do it different? You have Joss Whedon write dialogue for them and James Spader perform it.”

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters next month (with the sequel already being announced for 2017).
