Bungie Expects Long-Term Commitment From Destiny Players

Bungie&quo;s first big follow-up to the uber-successful Halo franchise comes in the form of an out-of-the-box take on an old standard. But will this combination of sci-fi FPS and role-playing be enough to keep people’s interest?

Bungie certainly thinks so. In a recent interview, Eric Osborne (who is Community and Marketing Manager) touts the sheer scope of the gaming experience which players are in store for. “Destiny’s pretty big. It’s the biggest game we’ve ever made, by far, and we’re sort of known for making games you can play for months, years, and even decades if you’re a little bit…dedicated…With Destiny , we’re looking to exceed what we’ve done before, not just in terms of scale, the Moon is our smallest destination…That’s true for day one, as you expect, but it also means we want Destiny to have super-long legs.” He says.

Some fans got their first taste of what Destiny has to offer during the recent beta, which Bungie has deemed a complete success. Osborne teases this was merely the tip of the ice berg in what we can expect, once the final build hits store shelves. “The Beta was water wings. Level 8 is nothing. You’ve barely scratched the surface, and it seems like some folks had fun with what was there… Destiny is philosophically built support every type of player, and all modes with ongoing activities and events. We look at it quite a bit like television programming, as opposed to a singular film, as we had in the past.” Said Osborne.

Destiny is set to hit the Xbox One, 360, PlayStation 3 and 4 on September 9 th . Schedule your sick days now!
