Director James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy

Director James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy

This rag-tag group of unlikely heroes known as the Guardians of the Galaxy looks to set even more box office records for Marvel, when it hits theaters in just a few days. Now, the Director talks a bit more about working on the film in a recent interview.

When SuperHeroHype sat down with Gunn , he starts by proudly admitting he was the absolute best persons for this job! When asked if the upcoming Marvel flick will reflect his eclectic sensibilities (with his work ranging from kid’s movies to horror), Gunn says “…I’m not saying this in an egocentric way, but there did come a point when I’m like, “Who else would’ve made this?” I mean, it does fit my personality perfectly. There was a point early on with Jeremy Latcham, one of the producers, he came in and he said, “I feel like you were genetically created in a laboratory to make this movie.” I was like, “Yeah, you’re right.”

Another feather in the cap of the Guardians film is the amount of Hollywood brass it drew in (with the likes of John C. Riley and Glenn Close). Gunn touts their success in casting, due to how immensely popular the superhero genre has now become. “…The difference with this movie is that we got almost every single person we went to because they’re excited to work with Marvel. They seem to be excited to work with me, once I met with them. Benicio and I instantly got along, same thing with Glenn, she was a pure delight. John C. Reilly is one of my favorite actors, Bradley Cooper is one of my favorite actors. These are all people who I was just very excited to work with. When I’m making a movie, it excites me to be able to use that movie as an opportunity to work with somebody whose work I admire.” Gunn states.
