Zero Suit Samus will be paying homage to past Samus character designs in Super Smash Bros 4 . She has two alternate costumes that put her in nothing more than an athletic top and short shorts. Before you start crying sexism (which it is a little sexist, but hey, so are a lot of things in the fighting game world) these outfits are actually homages to previous Zero Suit character designs. For example, the blue costume is a throwback to Super Metroid and the end of Metroid Fusion . The orange costume is a reference to a piece of art that you saw at the end of Metroid Zero Mission .
Sakurai said they both almost didn’t make it into the game. “Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That’s what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time.”
Unfortunately she still has the controversial rocket heels in each one. Still would have preferred rocket boots.
