Viking Game Jotun Overcomes Daunting Kickstarter Goal

Viking Game Jotun Overcomes Daunting Kickstarter Goal

Backers have once again spoken through Kickstarter, and this time they’ve chosen to fund a hand-drawn action-adventure game about Vikings, Jotun . Now that the game has been funded, players will have the opportunity to experience the story of Viking warrior Thora, who seeks entry into Valhalla by searching for several elemental gods. While it is described as Zelda -like, Jotun tests each player’s worthiness by having them explore randomly generated dungeons filled with puzzles and monsters to overcome. Should they succeed, players will win the rune needed to summon and then fight a gigantic Jotun.

Speaking of which, Jotuns are part of the highlight of the game: hand-drawn graphics. Taking inspiration from Shadow of the Colossus , each Jotun is massive compared to Thora, and every detail in the beautiful artwork lets players know that Thora is about to engage in a decisive battle. Thora can’t level up in order to match the Jotun’s sheer strength; instead, she can only rely on her wits, reflexes and weapons in order to overcome her daunting adversaries.

The Kickstarter ended on Wednesday, raising a total of $64,265 (CAD). Jotun will be playable for PC, Mac and Linux around September 2015.
