This weekend, the PSN was the target of a DDoS attack by a group of hackers called Lizard Squad. Before you start going crazy, a DDoS attack just forces servers offline. It doesn’t actually access any personal information, so this isn’t a redo of the big PSN security breach of a few years ago.
In addition to this attack, the group repeatedly tweeted American Airlines saying that there were explosives on board flight 362. This also happened to be the flight that SOE President John Smedley was on.
Other services targeted by this group include Xbox account login, Battle.net, League of Legends , Path of Exile , and more.
It appears as if there is no real rhyme or reason to these attacks, unlike the previous PSN security breach. Lizard Squad does not seem to have an agenda they are following… or at least I can’t find one after reading their official Twitter feed.
On the upside, the PSN is back up now and all your account info is safe. We will bring you more information on this attack as it becomes available.
