Bungie Ranks Gameplay Over Graphics

The age old debate regarding better graphics not making for better games has raged on among our community for decades now. But what does famed developer Bungie have to say on the matter?

With their sci-fi epic Destiny on the horizon, production director Jonty Barnes revealed in a recent interview that people just aren’t as hung-up on visuals as some might think. “I feel like as an industry, people are caring less and less about numbers, which is great. It always used to be about graphics, and though 1080p and 60Hz are still out there…it isn’t about that. It’s actually what is an awesome gameplay experience for the player and anything that gets in the way of the best player experience is baggage.” He states.

Bungie also garnered criticism that their upcoming title seems a bit cramped (after the public got their hands on the beta). However, Barnes not only feels the variety of environments will prove these skeptics wrong (four different planets in total) but the retreading and backtracking you’ll do will easily keep players busy. Barnes says, “…it’s really hard for them to understand the real estate that is there and the complexity of all the different spaces that you can visit…which is that you may be going back to places that are familiar to you, but there’s going to be completely different activities for you to participate in. So you’ll be getting a very different experience…”

We received news over the weekend that Destiny has officially gone “ gold ” (which is industry terminology for pressing of the game discs to be shipped to stores).
