PS4 / Xbox One Was “Considerably Less Powerful Than High-End PCs at Launch,” Says Crytek

As reported by Dark Side of Gaming on Thursday, August 28, Crytek’s Nicolas Schulz and Theodor Mader admitted during a presentation at this year’s SIGGRAPH event that high-end PCs were much more powerful than both the Xbox One and The PlayStation 4 were at launch.

According to both Schulz and Mader, Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 were already outdated the moment they launched back in November, 2013.

Console hardware was considerably less powerful than high-end PCs at launch ” Crytek’s SIGGRAPH presentation reads.

Schulz and Mader also claimed during the presentation that Crysis 3 on Ultra graphical settings is an impressive looking title, and that adding things like more effects and higher resolution, etc., for the game was not an option on weaker hardware, explaining why Ryse ran at 900p at 60 frames per second on the Xbox One, according to Dark Side of Gaming.

Furthermore, the two also said that MSAA was not an option on Microsoft’s Xbox One, as there would have been a massive bandwidth increase. Some issues with the console’s ESRAM are also something that contributed to the prevention of implementing MSAA.

In regards to the upcoming PC version of Ryse: Son of Rome , it was revealed that SSAA will be made available.

We’ll bring you more news on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 should further information reach our ears.
