Advanced Warfare Dev Discusses Technology Benefits for PS4 / Xbox One

In an interview with Examiner on Tuesday, September 2, the senior development director of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games has taken a moment to talk about and explain why the hardware provided by the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 has made Advanced Warfare’s development easier.

You’re able to have a lot more processing power, so if you can push things on screen, like more special effects and higher-res textures, Advanced Warfare’s senior development director Aaron Halon told Examiner.

Because of the added freedom allowed by the hardware of each console, Halon went to say that Sledgehammer are trying out new things for both the Call of Duty franchise and for the first-person shooter genre in general, according to Examiner.

We’re doing a lot of things that are new with our characters, ” Halon continued, ” We have simulated muscular features in the face called blend-shapes, and those are new.

What’s more is that Sledgehammer will also be able to convey human emotions and feelings of given characters a lot more subtly, as the leaps in the appropriate technology can allow the studio to do so.

Now I don’t need a character necessarily to say something to react, you can just see it in their face and fidelity picks it up, ” Halon said. “ You’re seeing a level of fidelity in the faces and performances that you just couldn’t really get before. So that’s really exciting as a storyteller.

Furthermore, Halon expects that as technology progresses, game developers will be able to push the way first-person shooter genre hook players in, and that Sledgehammer is looking to step up the storytelling for the Call of Duty franchise, according to Examiner.

We use performance capture, so in the case of Kevin Spacey, you’re his face, his voice, his body and it’s like a film. You’re really filming him and then we transpose him digitally into our world, ” Halon added, ” All of those things are new and in my opinion make the game a lot better.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is slated to release on Tuesday, November 4 for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We’ll bring you more news on Advanced Warfare’s development should further information reach our ears.
