S.E.T.I. Is Hosting a Game Jam

The SETI Institute announced that it will be hosting a Game Jam later this year. SETI stands for the Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Their usual job is to scan the skies for evidence of alien life somewhere in the universe.

So why a Game Jam? Well, the search for intelligent life in the universe is just an awesome topic to make a game around. The event will be open to developers of all levels, and will give them access to SETI experts in order to make their games very true to life. The theme of the jam will be the Drake Equation, which is not the process by which Naughty Dog makes new Uncharted games. Rather, it’s the equation that attempts to map the probability of making contact with extraterrestrial life.

“At The SETI Institute we have a passion for discovery and for sharing knowledge with the world. We see gaming as a terrific vehicle to engage with the public on real science and research,” said Karen Randall, SETI Institute special projects director.

“By giving game developers direct access to our scientists and research we hope to kick-start a new effort using games to bring real science to the public.”

SETI-JAM will be held on October 17 th -19 th at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California, the gjovik University in Norway, and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
