EA Exec Says iPhone 6 Is On Par With Next Gen Consoles

Could phones be the consoles of the future? I don’t mean for mobile games, I mean could phones literally take the place of our consoles as output devices for major AAA titles. According to Frank Gibeau of EA, they certainly have the power to. He recently said in a statement to GamesIndustry.biz that he believes the iPhone 6 is on par with the Xbox One and PS4. “With the retina display and the improved processor, combined with the Metal [graphics] capabilities and 128 GB of memory, that gets you to a device that’s on par with next-generation consoles. That’s moving perfectly into our strike zone,” he claimed.

On par with an Xbox One and PS4 would be a very powerful phone indeed. The six plus can do 1080 resolution, but whether or not its processor and RAM are up to snuff is another thing entirely. Apple still hasn’t detailed the iPhone 6’s specs, so it is possible, but I’m still skeptical.
