Minecraft Hits PS4 in Early October

While the digital download edition of Minecraft has been available for the PlayStation 4 since the beginning of September, those holding out for a boxed version will only have to wait about another two weeks!

Brian Silva works in Developer Relations at Sony and recently posted an update regarding the disc-based version to the PlayStation.Blog. There isn’t much to say in regards to extra content, as this is virtually the exact same copy of the game the digital version offered. However, if you were to compare it to the PS3 (as Silva does), then there are quite a few differences (specifically the size of the sandbox world itself). “…PS4 Edition features worlds 36 times bigger than the ones you might be used to on the PS3 system. Existing players are able to import PS3 saves to the PS4 Edition, allowing them to continue work on their immense structure or delve even deeper towards the Nether.” He says.

However, there is another reason why gamers may want to snatch up a physical copy of Minecraft for the PS4. This may very well end up being the last copy you’ll see sporting the Sony label. With Microsoft’s recent $2.5 billion dollar buy out, it’s very likely that the franchise will become an Xbox exclusive (making these PS4 copies collector’s items in the far distant future).

We’ll keep you posted once we know more regarding how Microsoft plans to handle the franchise moving forward.
