Square-Enix Cloud Gaming Service Named Shinra

Square-Enix Cloud Gaming Service Named Shinra

Square-Enix has just announced more details on its brand new cloud gaming service, now called Shinra Technologies. The beta for this service will launch next year in Japan, allowing players to play games will above their computer’s specs by letting Square’s own powerful server side computer do all the rendering for them. When the beta launches, users will be able to play Final Fantasy VII, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Tomb Raider by streaming them from a remote location. A North American beta is scheduled to follow soon after the Japanese beta, but was also not dated. The servers for Shinra Technologies will be housed in New York.

The one difference between Shinra and other gaming services, is that Square-Enix will look into developing games that are “streaming only.” By utilizing the power of their multiple servers, Square hopes to create games that run using technology standards that no rig can challenge. They plan to see the service go live in 2016.
