Bayonetta 2 Gets High Reviews, Low Sales

Bayonetta 2 Gets High Reviews, Low Sales

Bayonetta 2 is one of the most anticipated Wii U titles on the market right now. However, despite all the hype, it doesn’t seem like it is fated to do well. The game has gotten glowing reviews from nearly every outlet, however it is still selling quite poorly. Week one Bayonetta 2 sales in Japan only managed to hit 39,000 copies, a number that is absolutely dwarfed by the original Bayonetta ’s sales totals at 138,000 on the first week. This is a game that Famitsu scored 38.40, which is rare for Famitsu.

There are a lot of reasons that can contribute to the game’s poor sales. Some say it’s because the Wii U has a very small install base. Some say it’s because the games release was muted and without much ceremony. Some say it’s because enough time has passed since Bayonetta 1 that people simply don’t care as much about the franchise. However, I simply believe that the release was overshadowed by the release of Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS.
