Is Batman: Arkham Knight More Than Just a Sequel?

For a die-hard Batman fan such as myself, things don’t get much better than a game like Arkham City . So with it being such a love-letter to fans of the comics and ‘90s animated series, one wonders where the sequel goes from here.

According to Rocksteady, thinking of it as a traditional sequel might be the wrong mentality. In a recent interview, Guy Perkins (marketing manager on the project) said they want to push beyond just another entry in the series and create what fans consider “the ultimate bat-sim.” Perkins touts “If people walk away thinking this is the ultimate Batman simulator, then our job is complete. We gave them Gotham City, we gave them Batman at the height of his powers and we gave them the Batmobile. I think those three elements come together to make a great game. If people go away feeling like it was awesome, we’ve done a good job.”

As you probably know by now (and if you don’t… spoiler alert ), the Joker didn’t survive the conclusion of the last game. With that, the Scarecrow steps up into the #1 baddie position. So how will this familiar face from Batman’s gallery of rogues compare to that of the Joker? “…He has so many iconic moments in the first game, to have him back as the Big Bad is really cool. He’s a great mirror for Batman, as they both use fear as a weapon of choice. There’s a dichotomy there…” said Perkins.

Fans will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer to experience this last chapter, as development delays have pushed Batman: Arkham Knight to summer of 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
