Four Men Tried to Smuggle Cocaine Inside Original Xboxes

So, here’s a curious thing you don’t see everyday: four young Berks County men were arrested last week on Wednesday, October 8, under the allegation of smuggling thousands of grams of cocaine inside Xbox consoles. Not the Xbox One or the Xbox 360, no; the original Xbox that release back in 2001.

All four young men, hailing from Reading, Pennsylvania, were charged with the delivery of a controlled substance and other related offenses, too.

According to NBC.Philadelphia, Officials from Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs, along with the Border Protection Office of Philadelphia, contacted the Berks County Drug Task Force regarding a large amount of cocaine being smuggled from the Dominican Republic various addresses in Berks County.

One of the smuggled shipments, according to investigators, was described as “ Video Game Xbox 360 Use ” was sent to a home in Reading, Pennsylvania, with the shipment’s content reportedly containing around 1,100 grams of cocaine that a potential value of $100,000.

On the Friday, investigators spotted men who were believed to be waiting for the package, where they were identified as the aforementioned four young men. Whilst going undercover, a federal agent then delivered a copy of the package to the house of one of the suspects, where it was then allegedly accepted and signed for before the young man went back inside.

10 minutes later, he left the house, carrying a bag with the Xbox inside it, and walked over to another house, where he met the three other suspects. Securing the bag into the trunk of a nearby vehicle, the suspects then drove off, with the investigators following in tow.

The suspects’ car the arrived at another home in Cumru Township. By the time the investigators arrived, three of the suspects allegedly fled the home on foot. These three were soon apprehended were taken into custody. After obtaining search warrants for each of the suspects’ homes, the following items were found.

  • 1,100 grams of cocaine with the potential street value in excess of $100,000

  • Representative kilogram substitute containing a testable quantity of cocaine

  • Miscellaneous Xbox game console and parts.

  • Miscellaneous documents pertaining to the defendants

  • Miscellaneous packaging material related to cocaine

  • Heat sealer machine

  • Additional miscellaneous Xbox components and shipping packaging

  • Cutting agent related to cocaine.

  • Five counter-surveillance cameras

  • Over fourteen cellular telephones

  • Box of .40 caliber ammunition and loaded gun magazine

  • Digital scale

  • Plastic bag containing “crack” cocaine

  • Approximately $600.00 in U.S. Currency

A disassembled Xbox was also found on the kitchen table in the Cumru Township home. The four suspects were processed and arraigned at the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center the day after, on Saturday. Officials are still continuing their investigation, according to NBC.Philadelphia.
