Twitter Partly Inspired Pokémon Ruby / Sapphire Remakes

Twitter Partly Inspired Pokémon Ruby / Sapphire Remakes

The Ruby and Sapphire remakes are just peeping over the horizon as we begin to enter the last hurdle of October, and a lot of Pokémon fans (myself included) are waiting for good ‘ol nostalgia-hit–along with a fresh take on the original games themselves–as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire steadily come closer to release.

Aside from a total remake of the original Game Boy Advanced games, Pokémon game director Junichi Masuda has promised that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire won’t be “ a straight port ” of the original versions, as well as ensure that memorable experiences can be recreated with new things that feel relatively fresh to long-standing Pokémon players.

Additionally, as a curious tidbit of information, Masuda also revealed that the social media network, Twitter, had a part to play in catalysing Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire’s development, inspiring him to develop the games ever since he first joined Twitter a few years ago because a lot of people were talking about it.

I joined Twitter a few years back, ” Masuda told CVG during an interview and hands-on preview of Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire . ” Ever since I started Twitter, [a Ruby and Sapphire remake] has really been the title everyone’s talked about. So the longer it’s been going on the more it’s been in my mind, and I started thinking ‘you know, I really need to do these pretty soon’.

When asked about why the original Ruby and Sapphire games were so particularly well-loved, as a good portion of Pokémon fans have been asking for remakes for a long while, Masuda proposed a theory as to why Ruby and Sapphire were so heavily requested to be remade, and nods to Twitter (as well as other social media networks) as a voice for younger fans who grew up with original games.

It’s difficult for me to know the exact reason other than them being good games, but ever since I started Twitter three or four years ago it’s really been the title everyone’s been talking about: ‘Hey, when are the Ruby and Sapphire remakes coming?’ ” He explained to CVG.

So maybe, this is just my theory, but maybe a lot of the younger folks who use social media like Twitter and whatnot proactively were born around the time at which Ruby and Sapphire would have been their first Pokemon game, so maybe that might be one of the reasons.
