You are going to be delayed a bit before you can start playing Halo: The Master Chief Collection . Unfortunately, a day one patch for the game is required, and it’s one of the biggest patches we have seen to date. The patch weighs in at 20GB, which is almost half of the games 45GB size. We can only imagine that half of the game is being updates, likely something to do with sounds as that takes up the most space.
While the patch downloads, you can play the game, but some pieces will be missing. In particular, you can play the campaign, but multiplayer features will be added via the day one patch. Unfortunately, this means that users who purchase the game digitally will have to download the game itself and THEN the 20GB patch, which even on the fastest internet will take some time.
