A new batch of sales data for last month only confirms what many have suspected all along; the PlayStation 4 is still hot and 2 Destiny ’s launch was a huge success!
With the PlayStation once again outselling its Xbox counterpart, NPD analyst Liam Callahan revealed that MMO shooter Destiny has not only become the most successful launch of 2014, but of any new IP in history! “The launch of Activision-published and Bungie-developed Destiny in September 2014 proved successful in a number of ways: year-to-date through September data it is the top-selling video game on a unit basis, making it the most successful launch of the year so far as well. But an even more prestigious feat was the fact that Destiny had the best launch month of all-time for any new IP in video game software.” He says.
There is some controversy over which console manufacturer sold the most copies, as that claim to fame is in dispute. Technically speaking, the sales data from the study points to the Xbox One; however they only track US units. Sony has claimed the PS4 is the “preferred choice” for Destiny players worldwide.
