Why Halo: MCC Won’t Ship on Two Discs

We recently reported on the semi-ridiculous system requirements the upcoming Halo anniversary collection sports, insisting gamers to slice off a 20 GB portion of their hard drive at launch. Now we learn why from those at 343 Industries.

As in years past, popping in a second disc has been an easy way for developers to spread the weight of the game content around (thus not forcing you to install everything directly to the hard drive). However, Frank O’Connor of 343 recently revealed why they never considered this a viable option for their latest compilation. “The game is designed to run as a single, unified product; digital is seamless obviously, but we also wanted disc users to have the same experience, without swapping discs” he states.

O’Conner does mea culpa to those who still are not sold on the importance of such a massive day-one update, saying he understands the“…inconvenience and annoyance for some users… I’m not going to blow smoke or ignore it. For some folks it will be straight up annoying and I both apologize unreservedly for the irritance, and hope that the package and the way it works more than makes up for it.”

The Halo: Master Chief Collection hits store shelves on November 11 th exclusively for the Xbox One.
