EA Wins Partial Victory in Battlefield 4 Lawsuit

EA Wins Partial Victory in Battlefield 4 Lawsuit

EA has been involved in a very, very complicated lawsuit since the launch of Battlefield 4 . Essentially, shareholders claimed that executives at EA made false claims in earnings calls and interviews about the game’s quality. For those of you who don’t remember, the game was littered with bugs and issues at launch, and while it was an OK game when everything was patched and handled, it certainly damaged the trust that players had in EA to deliver a working Battlefield title.

But a federal judge ruled against shareholders, saying that the statements EA made were nothing more than “puffery” and “corporate optimism” and not flat out lies. They ruled at EA did not intentionally or deliberately seek to hide the truth or act recklessly using shareholder money. The shareholders involved, Ryan Kelly and Louis Mastro, said that they used these “false” statements to judge whether or not to invest in the company.

The case isn’t over, however. Kelly and Mastro will be allowed to let new lead plaintiffs come forward in the case. They must amend their case by November 3 rd . However, if Kelly and Mastro cannot prove that EA specifically attempted to deceive them, rather than simply making themselves look good like corporations always do, they will still have a losing case on their hands.
