The streetpass function of the Nintendo 3DS is a cool one. It unlocks certain types of game functionality by passing by another person who owns a Nintendo 3DS. Unfortunately, this is kind of designed around Japan which has a density high enough to pretty much guarantee StreetPass hits. Unless you live in a similarly dense metropolitan area, like New York, it might be a while before you see your StreetPass light up.
Usually, fans will go to conventions to get StreetPass hits, but Nintendo wants to facilitate the meeting of 3DS owners itself. So they are hosting the Nintendo National StreetPass Weekend, where you will be able to go to a Nintendo Zone hotspot and get up to six StreetPass tags from faraway 3DS owners.
There are over 29,000 Nintendo Zone hotspots around the US, located in stores, resturaunts, airports, and more. As an added bonus, you will not only get the far away StreetPass tags at the hotspot, but also tags from anyone else who is going to the hotspot for StreetPass tags.
The event will run from October 31 st through November 2 nd , and you can receive additional details about the event on Nintendo’s website.
